so im psyched to see this movie since the comic was such an amazing read. most critics are bashing it cause its biggest fault is staying true to the source material...

does anyone else think this is fucked up?

anyway, before i go off on a hypocrisy rant, im really looking for forward to seeing it. your thoughts?

My friend turned me onto this book my senior year of high school so I've been excited for the movie since then. Got even more excited with the trailers first started coming out. But now I started lowering my expectations cause I didn't want to get my hopes up too much. I am still hoping for the best and will be seeing it this weekend.

I'm excited for this movie. Back in 1993 my boss let me borrow Watchmen and V for vendetta and I was hooked. We used to talk about how Watchmen could never be a live action movie and the only way to film it would be to go animation. I guess we were wrong. I am definitely going to see it twice. My wife wants to see it and my buddy and I will go. I've been hooked ever since I saw the first trailer.

I'm very excited. I read the book about two years ago, and have ready it many times since then after I heard it was coming out. It will probably raise the bar again for comic movies.

probably not, critics are hating on it for being too much like the comic as stupid as that sounds.

But don't forget, most these genre movies are critic proof. What the critics write about the movie isn't going to affect what kind of movies the studios will release if a movie like this draws in audiences and makes the big box office number$.

I agree with Brendan. Also, so far the reviews I've seen are only fan reviews, and they have all been positive.

I know you guys are going to give me shit for this, but I've never read Watchmen. I've actually never been able to afford many comics, which sucks. But I'm kinda weary of this movie beacause it seems a little "Over-Hyped".

How dare you not read Watchmen!!! Evil or Very Mad Razz

I have read it multiple times and love it more and more. It is one of the greatest comic series ever put on paper. I highly recommend you reading it sometime.

Watchmen is actually one of the few graphic novels you can most likely find at your local town library. That's how my roommate got a hold of a copy.

I will definetly check it out. It sounds awsome and alan Moore is a hell of a writer.

If you ever buy one comic book it is the one you should get. I'm not trying to sound like a fanboy, but it is definitely one that stands out from the rest.

two of my friends who had never read the graphic novel thought the movie was amazing, deep and very thought provoking so its safe to say Watchmen hit its mark. Though there are a few deviations from the comic what you see on screen is 95% of the Comic.

I just got back from seeing it. I enjoyed it, it was good. I probably would have liked it a lot more if I hadn't read the graphic novel before hand back when I did. There were a couple things I wanted to see that were not in the film, but I guess that's understandable considering. Maybe the director's cut DVD will include more besides the Black Freighter.

Making the sex scene longer than it was in the comic didn't bother me. The choice of music kind of did though. And I thought the gore moments were great. Especially the one in prison.

I'm not sure what to give it for a rating. I was thinking maybe giving it a 7.5/10. Now I'm reconsidering an 8.

I thought it was really great. I really enjoyed the music throughout. I'm not a big fan of sex scenes, so that to me was the only real downside.

I felt like if you were someone who didn't know the story a lot of stuff might not make sense.. but I feel that about a lot of things. That's how I felt about LOTR when I first saw it. Maybe I just think people need to see the original material of stuff first.

Watchmen was fucking Fantastic. It was a little long though, and I couldn't stand seeing Dr.Manhattan Butt-ass-naked in almost every scene, plus his Dialogue was somewhat irritating.

I believe that Watchmen, and The Dark Knight have truly raised the bar for superhero/comic book films.

I love the concept of the Watchmen, and I wouldn't mind seeing it applied to some Marvel characters, Like the x-men, The Avengers, and Frank Castle.

all in all, Watchmen was about a 8/10

Just kidding you man. But in regards to what you were talking about needing to read the book before hand, I felt things that were subtle in the book were made blatantly obvious in the movie. I didn't realize the meaning of the last page until I read it a second time and realized the magazine publishers were talking about Rorschach's journal. In the movie its impossible to miss. I actually love how they went about the ending too where Veidt used Dr. Manhattan as a scapegoat rather than faking an alien invasion. I felt it tied the story together more nicely, the only thing I wish they kept from the book was the conversation between Dr. Manhattan and Veidt after it was all over and without that scene it makes Veidt seem a little two dimensional.

My wife and I went and seen it yesterday. I liked it a lot and knew what I was getting when we went to see it since, I've read the book a few times. She thought she was going to get the standard superhero movie and never read the book and didn't like it. She said it was long, drawn out and boring. She did like some parts of it. She loved the opening with the who Minutemen stuff and how this world went through the different eras. She loved the back story on everyone and wished they focused more on that. She didn't like the whole Veidt storyline. My buddy and I are going to see it this Friday. I have 2 free tickets. I think it followed the book nicely and I definitely liked the ending better than the alien squid. If the squid would have been in the movie, I think a lot of people would have left with a WTF was that about?

on screen the new ending works better but in the book the squid works better.

alot of people who dont understand the comic will not like this movie.

I think she liked the characters and understood the storyline. but it was just a slow buildup to the ending. I told her this really isn't a superhero story. It's a murder mystery with superheroes. That was the simplest way I could explain it to her.

I knew someone would say that. I just feel like some movies empathize a sex scene too much and it doesn't help the plot. Also, I don't like sharing movies with people when there is a lot of nudity in it. It didn't ruin the movie for me, it just seemed unnecessary.

And I agree about the ending being more obvious in the movie. I didn't quite get it the first time I read it but it made more sense the second... in the movie they just flat out said it which makes it a bit easier for the average movie goer.

True, that was a big part of Nightowl's character is that he's a fat old guy who can't get it up unless he's dressed up in his superhero costume. I just wasn't digging the choice of music because they tried to make it come off as comedic. Plus I'm not a big fan of that particular song. They might as well have used Van Morrison's Moondance.

I get what you're saying about sex scenes in particular though Scream. I can't recall any movies I've seen as of recently where I felt a love scene detracted from the movie (probably all those road trip movies that I've come out lately but I haven't seen any of them), but there are plenty of movies I can recall that are favorites of mine that strengthened the characters and their affections for each other.
