Well I watched a lot of movies this weekend so here we go.
Pineapple Express - I had been really wanting to see this movie for a while. I really liked the trailer. Didn't live up to all my expectations but still a fun time watching it. I did laugh a lot too which was a plus. 7/10
RockNRolla - Guy Ritchie makes some really cool films like this and Snatch, but there is so much going on in them that I really don't understand it all until after I'm done watching it. But at the same time its really easy to just sit back and let it drift over you and still have a good time. But I will say this, I do want to give Guy the finger for teasing me the whole time with how hot Thandie Newton looked and then fucking with me by using that freaking Requiem for a Dream style editing in the sex scene. 7/10
My Bloody Valentine - This is probably what remakes are good for. They re-released the original version with all the deleted footage spliced back into the movie, and all these extra death scenes have bloody fantastic effects for their time. All this to coincide with the remake. I almost kinda wish Prowler and Maniac are remade just so they can do the same for those movies since the DVDs out right now have been impossible for me to find. I feel weird giving all these movies I've seen a 7/10, but I enjoyed them well enough and I don't give movies an 8 or higher unless they've really blown me away. So this one is a 7/10
Cloverfield - I had not seen this yet until Friday night, but prior to this I had seen both Diary of the Dead and [Rec]. I really enjoyed the spectacle of it. It was definitely exciting to watch and kept me on the edge of my seat, even though I know everyone was going to die in the end. Only problem was there wasn't enough believability for me in some cases. First thing was the character who served as the cameraman. I know he feels obligated to film everything but still, I'm sure he'd try to comfort the girl he liked a little more in some scenes, let alone be a little more proactive when she's attacked by a giant insect rather than just videotape it while he waits for his friends to do something. The second grudge I have against this movie is the fact that its important to show that the guy's cellphone battery needed to be recharged, but this logic is never applied to the video camera. Believe me, those things do not run for very long. I think the movie [Rec] is probably the best and most effective movie so far that has been filmed from the POV of a character within the film. Cloverfield - 7/10. [Rec] - 9/10
Funny Games - I could probably write a whole essay on this movie but I won't do that here. I knew what I was getting into but wanted to witness first hand what all the fuss was about. Well it basically plays with conventions and the director thinks he is making the audience feel ashamed of themselves for liking violent movies. I don't agree with his message and don't really think he used the best choice of methods. Other than that, the actors are really great and the look of the film is really good too. So for everyone else involved who wasn't the writer/director, I won't give it too low of a rating. - 3/10.
